Transplantation

Organ transplantation,  despite its inherent challenges, is a medical intervention that saves many lives and improves their quality of life. Organ transplantation can be summarized as the surgical placement of a new organ in people with chronic organ failure. This procedure can significantly improve the quality of life and extend lifespan. Organ transplantation can be performed for many different organs, including kidneys, liver, heart, lungs, and pancreas. Because organ transplantation is a highly sensitive procedure, it requires many stages requiring specialized expertise.

Organ transplantation has saved many lives. Organ transplantation is necessary for organ failure caused by certain diseases, organ damage, or organ cancer. While organ transplantation offers many advantages, it also carries some risks. The body's immune system can reject a foreign organ, and patients may require lifelong medication to maintain the transplanted organ. Furthermore, a shortage of donor organs can lead to long waiting times for transplantation.

In conclusion, organ transplantation can be a lifesaving procedure in cases of organ failure or damage caused by many diseases. This procedure can improve the quality of life and extend the lifespan of people with chronic organ failure. Organ transplantation is used in conjunction with dialysis, medications, and other treatments and requires a waiting period to find a suitable donor organ. Although organ transplantation carries some risks, it offers significant benefits for patients.

Which organ transplant is performed most often?

Organ transplantation is a treatment method for patients whose lives are threatened due to organ failure, and is generally used to treat the following diseases:

  • Kidney failure
  • Liver failure
  • Heart failure
  • Lung failure
  • Pancreatic insufficiency
  • Intestinal failure

During an organ transplant, the donor's organ is transferred to the recipient, and the recipient is given appropriate medications. Organ transplantation improves the patient's quality and length of life and offers a solution to many ailments. It is crucial that the recipient is in good health and that a compatible donor is found. For more information about organ transplantation,  please contact our hospital  .

What are the types of organ transplantation?

  • Autograft:  Autograft is generally defined as a tissue transplant to the same person, that is, a tissue taken from one area of the same person and transplanted to another area.
  • Allograft:  Most human tissue and organ transplants are allografts.  Allografts are tissue or organ transplants performed between two genetically unrelated organisms of the same species.
  • Xenograft:  This type of organ transplant is the process of transplanting an organ from one species to another .
  • Split organ transplantation:  This procedure involves dividing the transplanted organ between two recipients. This is usually an adult and a child .
  • Domino organ transplantation:  A domino operation is performed in cases where both lungs need to be replaced. Replacing the lungs and heart in a blocked state is preferred because it is technically easier. Meanwhile, since the recipient's own heart is usually intact, this can be transplanted to another recipient.

Is there an age limit for organ transplantation?

There is no age limit for the recipient of an organ transplant. Transplants can be performed at any age, and the needs and reasons for organ transplantation vary from infancy to advanced age. However, a living donor or organ donor must be at least 18 years of age.

Why is organ donation so important?

Living donor organ donation only provides treatment for certain diseases (kidneys, liver). However, thousands of patients are waiting for organs like hearts that cannot be provided by living donors, and organ donation is considered their only option.

Is organ transplantation a good treatment option?

Yes, because if an organ isn't available, the only outcome for patients with chronic organ failure is death. While it's possible for people with kidney disease to survive thanks to a dialysis machine, this lifespan is very difficult due to their dependence on the machine. Life expectancy for patients in such a situation is significantly shortened.  When organ transplants  are performed on patients with organ failure, they become as healthy as any of us.

In organ transplantation treatment,   after the organs are removed, they are stitched with aesthetic stitches as much as possible, and great care is taken to ensure that the body is not damaged in any way.

By becoming an organ donor, you can give one or more people a chance to hold on to life.
